City Council honors local Cadet, presents yet another Budget Award

During its April 19, 2016 meeting the Forney City Council recognized West Point - bound Cadet Kaden Kinnart, presented financial staff with a GFOAT award; approved changes allowing Enterprise Rental to be next to McDonalds; granted 8 month extension for planning on the recently sold property at FM548 & Hwy 80 which will contain two national chain restaurants.

April 5, 2016 City Council approves "in God we trust" on vehicles

Forney City Council approves adding "in God we trust" to vehicles, annexing NextEra power company, negotiating with Markout WSC, but denied downtown craft beer and wine store.

Fireworks in the Pumphouse - Talty & Markout WSC information meeting & Vote

On March 29, 2016 Markout WSC held an informative meeting to explain their decision to allow members to vote on merging with Talty WSC. It was very well attended, and quite lively. On April 12, Markout members voted down the merger.

Forney City Council Sep. 2 lowers taxes, debates Booker T. building, accepts land for new fire station

Forney Council held a workshop regarding the fate of the recently purchased Booker T. Washington school building, adopted new budget which lowers taxes 2.5 cents, accepted 4.33 acres in Meadow Ridge for a future fire station, and had a second visit by a resident seeking ordinance enforcement.

Some items: sidewalks, RR quiet zones, splitting FM740/Bois D'arc through downtown, purchasing the FISD (old FBC) property, limiting the number of office uses, and generating funding for downtown improvements.

April 20 FDBA Candidates Forum - Mayor Rozell withdraws from race

Candidates for City and FISD were featured at the Forney DBA Candidate Forum, which ended with Mr. Rozell announcing he was withdrawing from the race and endorsing Ms. Penn.

Dec. 19 Forney EDC gets Strategic Plan Update, considers FAC lease, approves purchase of 110 E. Main

The Forney EDC Dec. 19 meeting had a presentation by TIP Strategies & EDT Best Practices regarding progress on the strategic plan, updates on downtown development, a lengthy consideration of the FAC lease, and a visit from members of Share the Love. After executive session, approved the purchase of 110 E. Main St for an amount to not exceed $400,000.
