Council OK's indoor gun ranges and new self-store facility

During its regular Jan. 10, 2017 meeting, the Forney City Council met and (this is the preliminary report, subject to change):


  • Presentation to Jaycee Lanae Bissell
  • Held Public Hearings, slightly out of order, for:
    • Approved an Ordinance amending the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance by adding a definition for Gun Range and designating zoning districts for the use of Gun Range.
    • Skipped an Ordinance amending the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance by adding and amending definitions for emergency shelter and halfway house and designating zoning districts for those uses.
    • Approved by 4-2 (RP, SR nay)an Ordinance approving a Conditional Use Permit for a self-storage use to operate at the northwest corner of E. Broad Street and Regal Drive in the City of Forney.
      Mayor Wilson recused himself and exited the room.

  • Consent items:
    • Approved a Resolution ordering the General Election for May 6, 2017. [Resolución que ordena la Elección General el 6 de mayo de 2017]
    • Approved by 4-2 vote of a preliminary plat for the Forney Public Storage Addition, located at the northwest corner of E. Broad Street and Regal Drive.

  • Approved by 4-2 a site plan for Forney Public Storage, located at the northwest corner of E. Broad Street and Regal Drive.
  • Approved an Ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances by amending the Master Fee Schedule to include the plan review fee, to define permit valuation, and to lower the fence permit, gas line permit and clean and show permit fees.
  • Approved a Resolution adopting tax abatement guidelines and criteria for granting tax abatement in reinvestment zones, and all related issues.
  • Hear and deliberate on strategic planning items including administrative matters and procedures, City ordinances, capital projects, City and ETJ boundaries/annexation, level of service, special events planning, and all related issues to determine direction and planning for the future of the City.
  • Held executive session re:
    • Consult with legal counsel
    • North Texas Municipal Water District
    • Discussions about security personnel, security devices, or a security audit (Texas Gov't Code 551.076).

  • Returned from executive session, took no action, adjourned at 2106.
