FISD in near-lockdown mode for all campuses

The Forney Independent School District has stated: "All Forney ISD schools are currently in Soft Shelter in Place due to the incident at the Kaufman County Courthouse on Thursday morning, Jan. 31. Students will attend classes as scheduled. Students will not be permitted outside and visitors will not be allowed in the building."
So the schools are not quite in lockdown mode, but close.

P&Z approved a site plan for a 7-11 store w/ 6 gas pumps; approved ordinance changes for Ice Machines & a C.U.P. for one; added a definition & annual fee structure for Food Trucks; approved zoning changes in the Fox Hollow PD for Neighborhood Services & Gas Stations at Monitor & 741, and at Monitor and 1641; concurred with proposed changes to allow for enforcement of private clubs regulations.

Nov. 6 City Council revisits quiet zones, does a refi, picks a flag design

The Nov. 6 City Council revisited quiet zone options; refinanced bonds to save money; approved certificates of obligation for Mulberry Park; adopted a special events policy including a Spellman Ampitheater addendum; selected a new flag design.

Council honors Star Employee & Forney Messenger, funds for road-work, debates special events policy

The city council awarded Jennifer Clark the Star Employee award, proclaimed Oct. 17 as Forney Messenger day; approved funding for services from the Environmental Co-op and design services for Hwy 80 ramp improvements; reappointed Judge Margaret Spain; amended the ordinance for school-zone speed limits; prohibited parking on Justice Center Dr.; debated the special events policy; amended a contract to allow NFHS onto the wastewater system; extended the Fox Hollow PID agreement for 3 years; and amended the tax abatement agreement for the E.R. development.

Second 3-board meeting for downtown redevelopment

City council, FEDC, and P&Z meet Oct. 8 to consider priorities for downtown redevelopment. Some items: sidewalks, RR quiet zones, splitting FM740/Bois D'arc through downtown, purchasing the FISD (old FBC) property, limiting the number of office uses, and generating funding for downtown improvements.

Ampitheater inclusion into Entertainment Overlay District tabled

Aug. 2: After a lengthy debate with much public opposition, the P&Z tabled consideration of including the Spellman Ampitheater into the Entertainment Overlay District.

Ampitheater policies and procedures debated

A lively 2.5 hour workshop was held to work out details about policies for use of the new Spellman Ampitheater. The required changes will be resubmitted to the Planning & Zoning commission in August.

Train stopped on tracks Sat July 7 about 5PM

The train stopped on the tracks about 5pm July 7, blocking everything West of Chestnut, and will "be there a while" until repairs are done. Which happened about 11:55pm.
