Council approves downtown crosswalk signals

During its regular Oct. 02, 2018 meeting, the Forney City Council met and in summary:

  • Public Comment - none.
  • Proclamation - Mayor Wilson read a proclamation designating Oct. 7 - 13 as Fire Prevention Week.Watch Video
  • Approved as one consent item:
    • the acceptance of Public Improvements for Forney Public Storage development.
    • a resolution approving the City's investment policy and broker's list.
    • a Resolution designating the Forney Messenger as the official newspaper.
    • a Resolution approving the Contract for Professional Judicial Services for the municipal court judges for the term of October 2018 to September 2020.

  • Approved amending Ordinance 18-38 transferring CIP Funds to the CIP Project for the Redbud Reconstruction Project for the construction of the utilities.
       Ms. Woodham said the utility funding for construction approved at last meeting was a little bit short, this will correct that.
  • Approved the authorization for a rectangular rapid flash beacon (RRFB) at the Main Street/Bois d'Arc pedestrian crossings.
       Chief Sherwin said this discussion started during the summer. This will have two lights and 4 buttons, any of which will start the entire system. Statistics indicate they increase vehicles yielding to pedestrians by 90%. Mr. Carson said the next item will provide funding for this. Mr. Johnson asked how long to be installed - 4 months.
  • Approved amending Ordinance 18-38 transferring CIP Funds to the CIP Project for a Pedestrian Crossing Signal Project.
       Ms. Woodham said this will take $31k and establish the project.
  • City Manager's report - Mr. Carson said council asked about cost of placing State Champion Softball info at various places - the new elevated tank would be 8k, Aimee 11k, N tank 12k, Kaufman Joint Venture ground storage was 20k-100k. Mr. McGee said other intersections need crossing markings, such as near Claybon. Mulberry has a problem with mosquitoes, can that area be sprayed. Mr. Curry said they spray seasonally, last was Sep 26. Mr. McGee said they must not have responded to spraying... Mr. Moon asked when spraying is done - Mr. Curry said it's seasonal, it's contracted through Public Works. Mr. McGee asked if rain affects the chemicals - Ms. McQuiston said it shouldn't unless real heavy rain. Mr. McGee said the mosquitoes were huge, at soccer and at softball. Mr. Rouvaldt said next sprayings are Oct 8,9,10.
  • Council Comments - Mr. Myers thanked first responders coming to Sundays' National Night Out, Ms. Powers is excited about lighted crossing, Mr. Johnson said Chestnut Meadows having a NNO. Mayor Wilson said NNO at Grayhawk, Heritage Hill Park, Skyline Estates, Park Trails, reminds everyone about St Martins carnival Oct. 7, their 107th annual carnival. Oct. is breast cancer awareness month.
